About Me
Satisfying a Sweet Tooth

Ever since she was a young girl, my sister has been interested in agriculture. After graduating with a degree in agriculture education, she accepted a teaching position at a local high school. For the past three years, she has been amazing her students with her knowledge about subjects such as raising beef cattle, growing flowers, and canning fruit preserves. Since she has a sweet tooth, canning fruit preserves is one of my sister’s favorite pastimes. If she ever has the time, she may even launch her own home based business canning fruit preserves to sell to customers. If you’re considering canning jams, jellies, and other sweet goods to sell to customers, you will need to invest in some state-of-the-art industrial equipment. On this blog, you will discover the types of industrial equipment that are necessary to start a canning business.

Do You Need A Qualified Crane Signal Person?

Malou Leffers

If you use a large crane on your construction site, you may ask a worker to guide the machines as they move about the site. But if the individual who guides your cranes and their operators lacks the proper training to do so, it could endanger everyone at your site. An untrained crane signal person may not know how to guide the machines and their operators safely. Learn how you can train your crane signal person properly below.

How Important Is a Trained Signal Person?

OSHA, or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, requires every crane operator to be licensed and trained in their profession. Crane operators must be able to manipulate and drive their machines without hurting other people or equipment. To ensure crane operators perform their jobs well, OSHA recommends companies hire a signal person. However, a crane signal person must also be properly trained before they can assist operators on the field.

A signal person's main job is to act as the eyes and ears of their crane operator. The individual stands close by the machine and uses special hand signals to guide the operator through different areas of the site. The signals prevent the operator from running into other pieces of equipment and into other workers on the site.

If a guide person doesn't know how to navigate their operators or use the proper hand signals, they can cause unforeseen accidents. The crane operator and the signal person may be at fault for any injuries that occur around your worksite.

If your signal person lacks formal training in their profession, have them sign up for training now.

How Do You Train Your Crane Signal Person?

First, contact a large equipment training company and request information on their training programs. A company should have a list of classes or training courses you can look over in your office. After you find the right program or courses for your signal person, have them sign up immediately.

Your signal person may need to travel to a training site for their program. An equipment training school may require your employee to train in person for a set amount of time before they take their licensing test online. You can make arrangements for your employee to attend their training program if needed.

After your signal person completes their training, they'll receive their credentials as a trained crane signal person.
